Barna's best tapas

La Flauta Barcelona

In the heart of Eixample, just around the corner of Diagonal street's bossy business towers we find one of the best Tapas restaurants in the city centre.

LA FLAUTA does not just offer typical spanish tapas and catalan classics but also seasonal delicatessen. The FLAUTA's name by the way comes from the restaurants most special feature: their special crunchy flute shaped bread – daily custom baked for the two LA FLAUTA restaurants. Which for me makes it one of the best pan con tomate in town.

NOTE: The original LA FLAUTA II closed their doors in C/Balmes and opened a brand new space in Rambla Catalunya, 9. Or go check out their LA FLAUTA location in Calle Aribau, 23!

Summer In The City - How to cool down like a Barcelonian

Barcelona in summer is loud, hot and sweaty.

While June and July are packed with visitors, August gets kinda weird: locals flee the city for holidays and suddenly the streets feel different. Lots of restaurants even close for a longer period. So make sure to check opening hours, because there nothing like a long, lazy paella lunch. Check out the dedicated seafood section here.

First rule to survive Spanish summer: skip the overpriced Sangria and order Tinto de Verano instead. Same vibe, and you'll immediately look like you know what you're doing. Find it at any local bar, usually for half the price. And if you want to go a bit fancier, enjoy the view from one of Barcelona's rooftop terraces - I'm collecting the best ones in the new Rooftop section on this blog. For a refreshment without alcohol, nothing beats a cold horchata at "Tio Che" in Poblenou, a neighbourhood classic.

If you're heading to the beach: pretty much all Barcelona beaches get packed on weekends. During the week, Bogatell or Icaria are still nice options. But for a proper beach day I'd definitely recommend hopping on a train to Playa de Castelldefels - the beach is wider and the atmosphere way more relaxed. With a car, Costa Brava is obviously the premium choice!

A reason to actually stay in the city in summer are the neighbourhood fiestas. Most Barcelona neighbourhoods celebrate their own festival at some point during the summer months. The most famous are the Fiestas de Gràcia, with elaborately decorated streets, live music and a lot of atmosphere. But Sants and Poblenou are also worth a visit and a bit more local.

Barnas Religion: Vermut

Vermuth is a solid part of Barcelonas gastro culture. Unlike elsewhere it has never really fallen out of fashion , in contrary: All generations from young to old worship the ritual of 'hacer un vermut', which means to meet up during the day and have drink and some snacks.

Discover in the new Vermuteo section all the special places in town, where you can enjoy your aperitivo in an authentic atmosphere: The most original & classic bodegas across Barcelona to gather with friends or family for cheerful daytime vermuth and the traditional side dishes.

BRUNCH in BARCELONA

Coffee, tea and a yummy breakfast! There are a lot of options in the city, Barcelona officially accepted Brunch culture and now offers exiting options for every taste. The Breakfast & Coffee section leads you to my favourites! And don't worry - all the places named in this blog offer vegetarian options as well!

Find well known bruncher's favourites such as Trópico in Raval or Surf House in Barceloneta, entire vegan brunch places, local delicatessen or hidden spots off the touristic map!

Support Local Commerce!

Barcelona has a huge problem with mass tourism, which not only leads to an overcrowded city center but also to a transition of the city.

Try to be concious and choose local products over international brands.

Check out places in your neighbourhood that offer local food and have fair work conditions. Let's support our favourite restaurants in Barcelona!
