THE SOCIAL HUB POBLENOU
C/Cristobal de Moura 49 (Poblenou)
Metro: Selva de Mar
Rooftop bar open 17:00-00:00H
Poblenou has a new, versatile skyscraper that hosts a hotel, student living and coworking space all in one - and a rooftop bar that is truly a hidden gem.
This urban oasis is open to all, offering breathtaking views that stretch far beyond the city’s more traditional tourist spots: Beside the coastline and the beach area you get a glimpse of neighborhoods like Sant Martí and Badalona—areas that feel more like the real Barcelona, away from the tourist crowds. And yet, you can still see Tibidabo and other familiar sights in the distance, reminding you that you’re still very much in the city.
The crowd at this rooftop bar is mostly coworkers and hotel guests, drawn by tthe promise of a great photo oportunity. The drinks are not cheap, but reasonably priced compared to other rooftops in the city—a beer will set you back around 4€. The offer some snacks and small tapas. Recently, a temporary pop-up kitchen served Mexican food.
There’s also a shallow pool on the terrace, perfect for dipping your feet in after a long day of exploring the city. It’s more of a feature than a real swimming pool, but it adds to the overall stylish atmosphere.
The rooftop bar opens at 17:00 and closes at midnight, though be aware that it sometimes hosts private events, which means it might be closed to the public.
If you want to combine the rooftop with a bit of productivity at the coworking area, and the bigger swimming pool at the 3rd floor you can purchase a day pass for 19€ or just request a free trial day ;)
Also, THE SOCIAL HUB also offers a lot of activities and classes, where not only members can sign up for. I defineatly recommend to check out their event schedule.
BAR TRIKINI
C/ Pujades 226 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open every day 19-02:00h
"Piscina": Fridays & saturdays 22-03:00h
This bar right next to the metro station ´Poblenou´ has it all figured out:
It is the kind of fun place you can bring friends, family, or your tinder date - everyone will like it!
The beach theme here couldn´t be any more obvious: The whole place is decorated in nostalgic 80-90s Spanish playa nostalgia, with lot´s of hilarious details. And, they have amazing and creative cocktails (from 10€ each), drinks, snacks and their famous ´trikinis´: toasted sandwiches with all sorts of fancy fillings.
But the most curious think is their "Piscina": they have a downstairs dancing bar which can be used as a private party location or opens on Friday and Saturday nights for people who already had enough drinks upstairs. The decoration couldn´t be more authentic and it even smells like an indoor swimming pool.
- total on bill: trikinis around 8€ & cocktails from 10€ each
KULETOS
C/ Doctor Trueta 220 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open Tuesday to Saturday 12:30 - 23:00h, Sundays 12:20-16:00h; Mondays closed
This place a a hidden gem in the neighbourhood of Poblenou, although often recommended by locals.
I like to go to this place for lunch to have rice: Paella, Arroz Caldoso or the alternative seafood noodles Fideuá (in the picture). They are one of the best you can get in the area, although lacking sea view.
The rest of the extensive card is also really good, from classic tapas to fine catalán dishes. The desserts are all homemade and the friendly staff will be happy to recommend you specials.
For lunch you can order different options of fix menus during the week (13€) or paella options during the weekend (19-25€) or just order from the card.
The decoration of KULETOS is something special:
The main big dining room has an Andalusian style indoor patio and the smaller room in the front does not only feature a piano, but also Tintin-comic decorations all over.
KULETOS is the perfect place to go with friends and family for local spanish and catalán food. You should call in advance if you want to go on the weekend or with a bigger group.
- total on bill: 25-30€ for dinner or paella lunch w/wine
NOTE!
If you order fix menu on the weekend it includes 1 bottle of wine for each 4 people, charging a supplement if you are less people.
XOUBA'S FOOD
C/ Llacuna 124 (Poblenou)
Metro: Llacuna
XOUBA'S is a new culinary space in the neighbourhood of Poblenou:
On Sundays, they offer traditional "Rosstisería": such as grilled chicken, barbecue meat, canelones and paella.
L'H@M
Pg. del Taulat 243 (Poblenou)
Metro: Selva de Mar
open only monday to friday for lunch (closed on weekends and holidays) - no reservation possible
This place is a real insiders tip!
The L'H@M is the student operated restaurant of the ESHOB Superior Culinary School in Poblenou. They offer a lunch and dinner menu for 13€ - which you can check on their website when doing your reservation.
You can choose between 3 sophisticated Spanish or Catalan starters and main dishes and a quite big assortment of desserts. Wine, soft drinks and water are included in the price, if you want coffee or beer you can pay it seperately.
The furnishing and decoration of the L'HAM is really simple but elegant and the place is quite spacious. There is a lot of staff working, standing around and full filling you every wish. Since it is a student operated restaurant (supervised by their teachers) you can fill out an evaluation form handed out on every table.
In the picture: main dishes & piña colada 'egg' for dessert
- total on bill: 16€ for lunch or dinner menu incl. wine or other drink
NOTE!
The Escola Superior d'Hostelería de Barcelona ESHOB does manage two restaurants: L'H@M on the ground floor and L'ESCOLA in the first floor - both operated by the schools students. L'ESCOLA has a more fine-dining angle and the lunch menu is 30€ (excl. drinks) - you can reserve a table here.
EL SANTET
Av. Icária 215 (Poblenou)
Metro: Llacuna
open every day: 12:00 - 1:30h
Wondering who is this creepy kid?
This is the "Santet de Poblenou", a mysterious boy buried in 1899 who according to legend, fullfills wishes from the hereafter and has a special grave niche in the old cemetery of Poblenou.
And directly in front of this cemetery, you will find one of the best terrasses in the area, that chose to take his name. Despite the mysterious background, the sun and colourful decorated terrasse are the protagonists here.
The interior, although the entire bar was stocked with recycled material from old factories and curious finding from the neighbourhood, has a very dark, punky aesthetic - that is why I definitely prefer to sit outside. Around midday it might be hard to find a place on the terrasse though, since the location is quite close to the Bogatell city beach.
The food is very tasty and home-made: You find very good classic catalán tapas (try the tortilla - see picture), yummy sandwiches and some proper lunch dishes.
Have a second vermut and enjoy the sun on the terrace!
RYU RAMEN
C/Sancho d'Ávila 178
Metro: Poblenou
open: daily 12:30 - 16:00H & 19:30 - 22:30H, Tuesdays closed
If you want to satisfy your craving for some nice hot ramen, you should definitely try RYU RAMEN. Just on a side street from Rambla de Poblenou you can find this unpretentious, simple Japanese restaurant.
You can sit outside, where they have about 4 tables on the sidewalk or chose a table inside, the service is efficient & friendly.
They offer a simple menu, that features classic Japanese starters like gyozas or takuyaki and a variety of different types of ramen. I really recommend the vegetarian version (or vegan without egg), since they give it an extra kick adding spicy peanut butter to the broth.
- total on bill: ~15€ for shared gyozas, ramen & drink
MINYAM
C/ Pujades 187 (Poble Nou)
MINYAM is a newly opened (2016) restaurant and bar just in front of BALIUS.
It's the perfect addition to the neighbourhood whether you look for a place to have casual drinks or a dinner with friends or colleagues.
The spacious place is divided by the large bar counter into a dining zone with quite a lot of tables and the entrance zone (on the picture) where you can stay on the stools by the windows or directly on the counter to have a drink or a glass of wine or beer with some tapas.
The kitchen serves up fusion fare ranging from Spanish and Catalan classics to Asian or Latino inspired dishes. The plates are decorated in a careful and elegant way. Still the prices are moderate, a quite good deal considering the quality of the food!
The staff on the bar is really friendly and happy to give you recommendations on wine and food.
During the week MINYAM also serves a fixed lunch menu for around 11€. I didn't had the chance to try it yet, but if I do, I'll let you know!
LA TAQUERIA POBLENOU
C/ Pujades 172 (Poblenou)
Metro: Llacuna
open monday to sunday 13:00 - 23:30h
The owners of LA TAQUERIA discovered just what was missing in the neighbourhood of Poblenou: a really good, unpretentious Mexican restaurant.
This place is a spin-off of the well known and very popular one in Sagrada Familia. In short time it transformed into one of the regular must-go-places in the neighbourhood when you are looking for a tasty cocktail, an excellent Michelada beer or delicious Mexican food.
They work with traditional Mexican ingredients & imported products and offer an extensive menu with a lot of popular dishes and traditional classics off the beaten track. There are several vegetarian dishes and I recommend to try one of the difference options with ‘Nopales’ cactus.
- total on bill: 20€ for dinner with beers
LITTLE FERN CAFÉ
C/ Pere IV 168 (Poblenou)
Metro: Llacuna
open 9:00-17:00h during the week, Tuesday & Wednesday closed, Saturday & Sunday opens at 10:00h
This coffee shop located on a corner of Pere IV street, just in the middle of Poblenou’s business district made its way to a popular option on the weekends as well: for it’s excellent brunch or a relaxed coffee break on the tables outside or in the light modern interior. In summer, try their homemade iced tea on the terrace or on the window sill bench.
The food menu includes all popular hipster brunch options and a lot of vegetarian & vegan options, that you might be craving for: from avocado toast to carrot cake to chia pudding!
If you’re one of those people who like to try new things but then always end up to go for avocado & eggs, Because you like it so much, then I definitely recommend you to order “avocado and peas” (see picture 3): crunchy bread with avocado mashed w/peas and almond-mint pesto and a poached egg on top! It was indeed the most delicious breakfast I had in a long time!
PETIT BANGKOK (Poblenou)
C/ d'Avila 87
Metro: Bogatell
open: everyday lunch 13:00-16:00h, dinner Tuesday to Saturday 20:00-23:00h
Book your table online here
This is just what was missing in the neighbourhood of Poblenou: Casual, healthy and exotic Thai food from the same owners as the very popular PETIT BANGKOK branches in Gràcia and Eixample.
The menu offers a huge variety of starters, currys, wok and rice dishes. But without doubt the all-time classic Pad Thai with prawns is one of the star-dishes. Everything is very tasty and the waiters are happy to help you with recommendations, if you want to try something new, off-beat. There are a lot of vegetarian dishes and options to adapt to vegan diet as well.
The restaurant is very big and offers room for a lot of hungry folks - so, usually you always find a table, only on weekdays during office lunch hour it might be a bit challenging sometimes. If you want to eat with a bigger group of people, previous booking might me useful. The prices are very reasonable (main dishes 10-12€) and the portions quiet big.
Don't expect an authentic traditional Thai restaurant though, this place offers popular Asian food in a modern, casual atmosphere.
- total on bill: around 20€ p.P. for dinner w/beer
LA PICANTERÍA DE L'ESCRIBÀ
C/ Maria Agiló 59 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open every day 13:00-01:00h
This is a real fusion: The famous ESCRIBÀ family, known for pastries & paellas at the beach opened this place in the heart of Poblenou to offers Peruvian dishes as well as Japanese, Brazilian and Mexican tapas.
The 'latino-catalán' lunch menu (12€) is a popular option among locals, and it might be tricky to get a table around that hour. The place is quiet small with a limited number of tables and few spots at the bar.
They offer sophisticated cocktails as well, which are generous but a bit pricy. The atmosphere inside LA PICANTERÍA is elegant but casual and the interior decoration is modern and fun. The staff is very friendly and happy to explain you about the exotic ingredients of each dish.
Must-try: Peruvian dish Ceviche Costeño
- total on bill: around 30-35€ p.P. for dinner with wine
EL TÍO CHE
Rambla de Poblenou 44-46 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open 10:00- 0:00h, wednesdays closed
This authentic old ice cream shop is not only the most popular in the Poblenou neighborhood since 1912 but also widely known as the most famous Horchatería of Barcelona.
Horchata (catalan: orxata) is a Spanish drink made of chufa (tigernuts), an almond-like fruit grown in the region of Valencia. It's known in all Spain and a popular refreshing drink in summer. Although it kind of looks like a milkshake, it's vegan.
I strongly recommend to ask for a medium-sweetend version: they mix the traditional & sugarfree horchata. The traditional horchata is reeeally sweet, but the mix is just perfect. If you want the whole sugar rush, get some fartóns with it (spongy, sweet baked sticks to dip into the drink).
The price for a medium sized cup of horchata is 2,80€. The ice cream cones, depending on the numbers of flavors you chose, beginning at 3,20€.
LA SALUMERIA
C/Pere IV 191 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open 10:00- 21:00h, Sundays closed
Website & online store: www.lasalumeriabarcelona.com
This Italian supermarket is super indeed: Here you can find everything you might think of if you are looking for authentic products from Italy. The store is quite spacious and offers basics, treats and delicatessen from all the regions of Italy. Alone the shelf for pesto has an enormous variety.
At the SALUMERIA you can find canned, storable and fresh products alike, the store in Poblenou, does even have a fresh meat & cheese counter.
Note: LA SALUMERIA has a second location in Sant Antoni (C/Comte Borrell 8), which was their original shop, but it is very much smaller.
BALIUS
C/ Pujades 196 (Poble Nou)
Metro: Poblenou
open every day: 13:00- 3:00h
Food: 13:00- 22:30h / Cocktails: 17:00- 3:00h
BALIUS one of my first discoveries when I moved to Poblenou neighbourhood.
This bar located in an old pharmacy/drugstore building is just great to have a relaxed drink and talk with friends or colleagues.
I entered in the bar BALIUS because of their slogan ‘cocktails and vermuths’. They serve fancy long drinks, cocktails and I loved the pure fact that they have a special vermut section on their menu with several local brands and vermuts artesanales.
They also serve sandwiches and tapas, but I was lucky just with a plate of olives and my vermuth.
On sundays they invite local artists to play bossanova or jazz music in the afternoon.
NOTE:
Balius has been really hyped lately and they seem to shamelessy exploit that fact:
In comparison to their old menu card they actually almost doubled some of their prices (gin tonics, cocktails) and the vermuths are at least 1€ more expensive each.
That's not cool guys!!
TIMESBURG
C/ de Pujades 168
Metro: Poblenou/Llacuna
open: daily 13:00 - 16:30h & 20:30-23:00h
other locations in Eixample: P. San Joan 47 / Rosselló 520 / Casanova 246 /París 95 - check www.timesburg.com
TIMESBURG has already different several spots allover Barcelona. Their concept is easy and successful: Hamburgers made with quality ingredients, served in a pleasant, casual hipster atmosphere.
The best about their menu is, that you can change everything according to your taste, so you get your personal, perfect burger!
You can e.g. change the meat from any(!) burger to tofu/vegetable option and create perfect vegetarian & vegan sandwich.
For undecided, I recommend you to just order my favorite: LaVeggie c/ pan de cristal (in the picture). It's very big (two veggie patties, pesto, extra pickles) so you can share, especially when also ordering a big bowl of french fries (1/2 kg).
TIMESBURG is not cheap, you easily let >15€ p.p. for a lunch with fries and a drinks.
SOPA BARCELONA
C/ Roc Boronat 114 (Poble Nou)
Metro: Llacuna/Glorias
open weekdays 08:00 - 17:00h, weekend 10:00 - 17:00h
Check out their daily menu here!
This veggie bistro in Poblenou is specialized on vegetarian and vegan dishes freshly made with seasonal ingredients. SOPA offers soups, salads, dishes and a lunch menu for 9,90€ including 2 plates and water (to choose from 3 options of soup, salad and main dish).
On weekends they have less variety to choose from, probably given the fact that due to it's location their main clients may be workers and students from the faculties and offices near by.
- total on bill: 4,90€ soup + 2,00€ drink
Don't trust Tripadvisor, trust me!
Hi, my name is Kristin.
I'm from Germany but for over ten years I have been living, working and eating in Barcelona. Receiving a lot of friends from all over the world I always have been asked for references and recommendations where to enjoy a good meal or having a drink in the city.
