THE SOCIAL HUB POBLENOU
C/Cristobal de Moura 49 (Poblenou)
Metro: Selva de Mar
Rooftop bar open 17:00-00:00H
Poblenou has a new, versatile skyscraper that hosts a hotel, student living and coworking space all in one - and a rooftop bar that is truly a hidden gem.
This urban oasis is open to all, offering breathtaking views that stretch far beyond the city’s more traditional tourist spots: Beside the coastline and the beach area you get a glimpse of neighborhoods like Sant Martí and Badalona—areas that feel more like the real Barcelona, away from the tourist crowds. And yet, you can still see Tibidabo and other familiar sights in the distance, reminding you that you’re still very much in the city.
The crowd at this rooftop bar is mostly coworkers and hotel guests, drawn by tthe promise of a great photo oportunity. The drinks are not cheap, but reasonably priced compared to other rooftops in the city—a beer will cost you around 4€. The offer some snacks and small tapas. Recently, a temporary pop-up kitchen served Mexican food.
There’s also a shallow pool on the terrace, perfect for dipping your feet in after a long day of exploring the city. It’s more of a feature than a real swimming pool, but it adds to the overall stylish atmosphere.
The rooftop bar opens at 17:00 and closes at midnight, though be aware that it sometimes hosts private events, which means it might be closed to the public.
If you want to combine the rooftop with a bit of productivity at the coworking area, and the bigger swimming pool at the 3rd floor you can purchase a day pass for 19€ or just request a free trial day ;)
Also, THE SOCIAL HUB also offers a lot of activities and classes, where not only members can sign up for. I defineatly recommend to check out their event schedule.
ABIRRADERO
C/ Vila i Villa 77 (Poblesec)
Metro: Parallel
open tuesday to thursday 18:00 - 0:00, friday 18:00 - 2:00, saturday 12:00 - 2:00, sunday 12:00 - 0:00
ABIRRADERO is a brewpub, a bar which makes and sells their very own craftbeer.
The great majority of their beers are brewed in Catalunya and around half of them in a manufactury just around the corner: the 'Instituto de Cerveca Artesana' I.C.A. in the very same neighborhood of Poblesec.
You can choose between 40 different beers, all freshly tapped from the shooters. These make the ABIRRADERO the brewpub with the biggest variety of tapped beers in Europe. The constantly changing offer is displayed on a digital screen just behind the counter.
If you enter as lost as I, concerning the science of beer and brewing industry the friendly waiters will recommend you different options and even give you try before you decide weather to take a half or a whole pint.
The inside of the ABIRRADERO is rather light and simple. They also offer some snacks and tapas but I did not try any yet.
The beers cost between 3-4€ (half a pint) up to 5-7€ for a whole pint.
BORMUTH
C/ del Rec 31 (Born)
Metro: Jaume I
open every day 12:30 - 1:30h, friday & saturday until 2:30h
The BORMUTH is a RestoBar right in the heart of the Borne neighborhood. They have a small terrace and a quite spacious inside, but any though it is always packed with people and you might have to wait some minutes to get a table, especially if you go with a group.
The BORMUTHs menu includes a variety of tapas to share which are quite tasty and reasonably priced. But in my opinion, due to the noise inside, I prefer the BORMUTH for drinks and pica-pica instead of for dinner.
Recommendations: Vermut rojo (2,10€) + Tapa de cazón en adobo (6€)
ELEPHANTA
C/ Torrent d'en Vidalet 37 (Gràcia)
Metro: Joanic
open Mondays to Saturdays 18:00 - 3:00, Sundays: 17:00 - 3:00h
I am not crazy about Gin Tonics, but a lot of friends of mine are. And I simply have to admit the this little cozy bar in Gràcia is just the perfect place to try exclusive and delicious Gins.
The drinks menu is so wide-ranging (40 types of gin) that you might need some time to figure out which one will be your drink tonight. Or you just go for a pack degustación, which includes 4 smaller glasses of different varieties.
The Gin Tonics cost between 9-14€ but are really worth it.
CELLER CAL MARINO
C/ Margarit 58 (Poble Sec)
Metro: Poble Sec
open Tuesday to Saturday: 12:00- 15:30h & 19:30- 23:30h
Sundays: 11:30- 15:00h
CELLER CAL MARINO, in the very soul of Poble Sec is another excellent wine & tapas temple where old-established locals meet handsome hipsters. And they are all looking for the same thing: a glass of proper vermut and/or wine and a bite to eat. They do not just offer a variety of yummy homemade croquetas (e.g. sobrassada with honey, calçots or mushrooms with vermuth!) and Spanish/Canarian tapas but first and foremost serve local and national wines – bottled and to bottle.
The restaurant although quite spacey does not have a lot of tables (actually barrels) with stools to sit, but the spirit is to stand on the bar anyway.
Periodically the owners organise music or performance events in CAL MARINO where local bands and performers entertain you while slurping your delicate vermuth. http://www.calmarino.com/
BALIUS
C/ Pujades 196 (Poble Nou)
Metro: Poblenou
open every day: 13:00- 3:00h
Food: 13:00- 22:30h / Cocktails: 17:00- 3:00h
BALIUS is my newest discovery since I moved to the Poble Nou neighbourhood.
This bar located in an old pharmacy/drugstore building is just great to have a relaxed drink and talk with friends or colleagues.
I entered in the bar BALIUS because of their slogan ‘cocktails and vermuths’. They serve fancy long drinks, cocktails and I loved the pure fact that they have a special vermut section on their menu with several local brands and vermuts artesanales.
They also serve sandwiches and tapas, but I was lucky just with a plate of olives and my vermuth.
On sundays they invite local artists to play bossanova or jazz music in the afternoon.
NOTE!
Balius has been really hyped lately and they seem to shamelessy exploit that fact:
In comparison to their old menu card they actually almost doubled some of their prices (gin tonics, cocktails) and the vermuths are at least 1€ more expensive each.
That's not cool guys!!
I have to look out for other vermuth options in Poble Nou. I'll let you know!
MINYAM
C/ Pujades 187 (Poble Nou)
MINYAM is a newly opened (2016) restaurant and bar just in front of BALIUS.
It's the perfect addition to the neighbourhood whether you look for a place to have casual drinks or a dinner with friends or colleagues.
The spacious place is divided by the large bar counter into a dining zone with quite a lot of tables and the entrance zone (on the picture) where you can stay on the stools by the windows or directly on the counter to have a drink or a glass of wine or beer with some tapas.
The kitchen serves up fusion fare ranging from Spanish and Catalan classics to Asian or Latino inspired dishes. The plates are decorated in a careful and elegant way. Still the prices are moderate, a quite good deal considering the quality of the food!
The staff on the bar is really friendly and happy to give you recommendations on wine and food.
VERMUT I A LA GÀBIA
Plaça d'Osca 7
Metro: Plaça de Sants
open every day 13:00 - 1:00h, Friday & Saturday until 2:00h
Locals are in love with this place - not only because of the great location on the square Plaça d'Osca. This small vintage bar with it's huge terrace is absolutely one of the favourites in the neighbourhood of Sants.
The menu offers a lot of typical Spanish tapas, conservas and a selection of wines. The prices are more than reasonable, which makes the VERMUT I A LA GABIA the perfect pit stop when in Sants.
Don't trust Tripadvisor, trust me!
Hi, my name is Kristin.
I'm from Germany but for over ten years I have been living, working and eating in Barcelona. Receiving a lot of friends from all over the world I always have been asked for references and recommendations where to enjoy a good meal or having a drink in the city.
