VERMUTERIA DEL TANO
C/ de Joan Blanques 17
Metro: Joanic (Gràcia)
open Tuesday to Friday: 9:00- 21:00; Saturday & Sunday: 12:00-16:00 - Mondays closed!
This place is a real authentic experience of what a local bar in the neighbourhood of Gràcia looks like. This bodega is quite small and the decoration is something else: The walls are covered in football stickers, old photos & curiosities. They only serve 'conserves' (tinned seafood), beers, liqueurs and the house vermouth.
LA MARI OLLERO
C/ Calabria 5 (Sant Antoni/Poblesec)
Metro: Poble Sec
open 11:00-0:00h, Fridays and Saturdays until 01:00h
LA MARI offfers delicious Andalusian tapas and dishes, but let´s be honest, you should come here for the vermuth!
They have an amazing assortment of different vermuths which you can order a sampler with the description of each to try different types and if you like, directly buy an entire bottle off their shelf.
The decoration of the place is very nice and the staff is super friendly, i really have to come back to try some more of their tapas...and vermuths, of course.
- vermuth degustation: 4 small glasses and a tapa for 8€
LUTE
C/ Sant Medir 9
Metro: Plaça de Sants
monday to fridays 18:00 - 24:00; saturday & sunday: 12:00h-24:00h
Some discoveries I’m so proud of them that I want to share with everybody: this is definitely one of them!
This tiny corner bar in Sants just around the corner of the ‘Mercado de Sants’ is has become popular for its Sunday live music sessions. And they also have amazing tapas!
When my friends invited me for some music and vermout I couldn’t resist and we ended up ordering a whole lot of delicious dishes from the menu: Homemade veggie ‘croquetas’, yuca bravas & amazing vegetarian mushroom ‘canelones’ to name just a few of them.
On Sundays they have two live music sessions at 1 PM and around 8 PM. Probably the bar will be packed but you can also stand on the big window counter and enjoy the tunes with your snacks, beers & vermuts.
- total on bill: around 10€ for beers & snacks + tip for the band
CELLER CAL MARINO
C/ Margarit 58 (Poble Sec)
Metro: Poble Sec
open Tuesday to Saturday: 12:00- 15:30h & 19:30- 23:30h
Sundays: 11:30- 15:00h
CELLER CAL MARINO, in the very soul of Poble Sec is another excellent wine & tapas temple where old-established locals meet handsome hipsters. And they are all looking for the same thing: a glass of proper vermut and/or wine and a bite to eat.
They do not just offer a variety of yummy homemade croquetas (e.g. sobrassada with honey, calçots or mushrooms with vermuth!) and Spanish/Canarian tapas but first and foremost serve local and national wines – bottled and to bottle.
The restaurant although quite spacey does not have a lot of tables (actually barrels) with stools to sit, but the spirit is to stand on the bar anyway.
Periodically the owners organise music or performance events in CAL MARINO where local bands and performers entertain you while slurping your delicate vermuth. http://www.calmarino.com/
BODEGA D'EN RAFEL
Carrer de Manso 52 (Sant Antoni)
Metro: Sant Antoni
open mondays to fridays 10:00- 23:00h, saturday until 16:00h, sunday closed
This very authentic bodega close to the Sant Antoni metro station serves beer, drinks (vermuth!) and an assortment of spanish and catalan tapas. The 'tortilla de patatas' is simple but extremely delicious.
It is always very crowded and noisy - I think it is almost imposible to get a table on thursday or friday night - that's why I defineatly recommend de RAFEL more for a pre-party-drink with
friends than for dinner.
And don't be surprised if a local abuelo greybeard complains to you about stealing his usual spot.
NOTE: Rafel, the original owner of this place retired in 2023. Luckily after many struggles they found new managers that wanted to keep the essence of the place. Rafel still comes by to say Hola every day.
VERMUT I A LA GÀBIA
Plaça d'Osca 7
Metro: Plaça de Sants
open every day 13:00 - 1:00h, Friday & Saturday until 2:00h
Locals are in love with this place - not only because of the great location on the square Plaça d'Osca. This small vintage bar with it's huge terrace is absolutely one of the favourites in the neighbourhood of Sants.
The menu offers a lot of typical Spanish tapas, conservas and a selection of wines. The prices are more than reasonable, which makes the VERMUT I A LA GABIA the perfect pit stop when in Sants.
BORMUTH
C/ del Rec 31 (Born)
Metro: Jaume I
open every day 12:30 - 1:30h, friday & saturday until 2:30h
The BORMUTH is a RestoBar right in the heart of the Borne neighborhood. They have a small terrace and a quite spacious inside, but any though it is always packed with people and you might have to wait some minutes to get a table, especially if you go with a group.
The BORMUTHs menu includes a variety of tapas to share which are quite tasty and reasonably priced. But in my opinion, due to the noise inside, I prefer the BORMUTH for drinks and pica-pica instead of for dinner.
Recommendations: Vermut rojo (2,50€) + Tapa de cazón en adobo (6€)
BALIUS
C/ Pujades 196 (Poble Nou)
Metro: Poblenou
open every day: 13:00- 3:00h
Food: 13:00- 22:30h / Cocktails: 17:00- 3:00h
BALIUS is my newest discovery since I moved to the Poble Nou neighbourhood.
This bar located in an old pharmacy/drugstore building is just great to have a relaxed drink and talk with friends or colleagues.
I entered in the bar BALIUS because of their slogan ‘cocktails and vermuths’. They serve fancy long drinks, cocktails and I loved the pure fact that they have a special vermut section on their menu with several local brands and vermuts artesanales.
They also serve sandwiches and tapas, but I was lucky just with a plate of olives and my vermuth.
On sundays they invite local artists to play bossanova or jazz music in the afternoon.
NOTE: Balius has been really hyped lately and they seem to shamelessy exploit that fact:
In comparison to their old menu card they actually almost doubled some of their prices (gin tonics, cocktails) and the vermuths are at least 1€ more expensive each.
That's not cool guys!!
CARRER BLAI
Metro: Poble Sec
This is not an actual recommendation for a restaurant, but you will find good and value food anyway: The Carrer Blai (Blai Street) is a very popular pedestrianised street in Poble Sec where you can find quite a number of pintxo bars and usually a great ambience.
Pintxos are typical Spanish appetizers: a simple slice of white bread with different toppings. They are usually displayed on the counters of the bars, you get a plate, chose and pick them yourself and order your drinks with the staff. The prices in the restaurants in Carrer Blai are about 1,50€ per pintxo, some extravagant or warm ones might be a bit more expensive. Check out the variety and prices before sitting down - there are plenty of other bars. Excellent place for bar- & pintxo-hopping!
- total on bill: 1,50€ per pintxo
