LITTLE FERN CAFÉ
C/ Pere IV 168 (Poblenou)
Metro: Llacuna
open 9:00-17:00h during the week, Tuesday & Wednesday closed, Saturday & Sunday opens at 10:00h
This coffee shop located on a corner of Pere IV street, just in the middle of Poblenou’s business district made its way to a popular option on the weekends as well: for it’s excellent brunch or a relaxed coffee break on the tables outside or in the light modern interior. In summer, try their homemade iced tea on the terrace or on the window sill bench.
The food menu includes all popular hipster brunch options and a lot of vegetarian & vegan options, that you might be craving for: from avocado toast to carrot cake to chia pudding!
If you’re one of those people who like to try new things but then always end up to go for avocado & eggs, Because you like it so much, then I definitely recommend you to order “avocado and peas” (see picture 3): crunchy bread with avocado mashed w/peas and almond-mint pesto and a poached egg on top! It was indeed the most delicious breakfast I had in a long time!
SURF HOUSE BARCELONA
C/ L’Almirall Aixada 22 (Barceloneta)
Metro: Barceloneta
open 13:00 – 20:00h on Wednesday & Thursday; 12:00 – 01:00h Friday & Saturday; 12:00 – 22:00h Sundays
Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (check opening hours during winter months)
SURF HOUSE BARCELONA (SHB) is a great spot in front of the beach in Barceloneta. They serve up fresh fruit juices, cocktails, coffee, savoury brunch and lunch dishes using all fresh ingredients.
There are also quite a lot vegetarian, gluten- & lactose-free options. The staff is super friendly and can help you with the decision.
The inside of the restaurant is quite small and you can sit on individuals tables or shared ones on stools. But they also dispose a terrace, which in case of rainy or windy weather can be covered.
The prices are moderate, it is not a cheap place, but the location and the atmosphere are quite worth it. You can check their menu and prices here.
The SHB also offers amazing sporty activities, such as surf & yoga lessons combined with brunch on the weekend (check prices and dates on their website). I haven’t tried them yet, but I will keep you updated.
GALERIA COSMO
Enrique Granados 3 (Eixample Izquierda)
Metro: Universidad
open: daily 10:00 - 22:00h
Just in the heart of Eixample: A charming corner offering yummy cakes, good coffee and delicious brunch options. The GALERIA COSMO is a big, but cozy space with an exceptional interior, featuring contemporary art & design.
Enjoy good coffee, fresh juices, salads, sandwiches and classic brunch favourites. And try their various
homemade cakes, offering also vegan options.
- total on bill: 8€ for cake & coffee
TRÓPICO
C/ Marques de Barbera 24 (Raval)
Metro: Liceu
open daily: 10:00 - 24:00h, Fridays & Saturdays until 2:00
The location of this restaurant in a hidden street in Raval is centric and the space itself is very nice: The big main room at the back is full of natural light and if you can't find space there in the hall and in the entrance are also a few small tables close to the bar.
But most certainly, people come here because of the food. The flavours and the colorful appearance of the dishes are - there is no other way to say it - tropically!
The consists in mostly latin american standards like arepas, ceviche and Peruvian dishes like causa limeña & aji de gallina. But also mainstream brunch classics cannot miss: pancakes, eggs benedict ect.
Veggie (no vegan) and gluten-free dishes are signalised in the menu, but the staff is also open to do modifications (I ordered eggs benedict dish without ham).
The food is not outstanding, but it's super tasty and very good value. What I really enjoyed was the juice: watermelon coconut water (in the picture).
- total on bill: aprox. 15€ p.p. for juice & several shared brunch dishes
SATAN'S COFFEE CORNER
C/ de l'Arc de Sant Ramon de Call 11 (Barrio Gótico)
Metro: Jaume I or Liceu
open 8:00 - 18:00h (sunday from 10:00h), Tuesdays closed
If you manage to find this hidden place in the small and wrinkled streets of Barrio Gótico you will find a relaxed, straight forward coffee shop.
SATAN'S has no terrace, just some benches, tables and stools in the open space with big windows where the coffee is prepared right in the middle.
The limited menu offers quality beans, that are transformed into excellent expresso, filter coffee or cold brew. It is more expensive that the regular coffee in town, but it's also better.
I didn't try the food yet, but I am under the impression that this place is quite a good idea to go and have breakfast.
CAFÉ FEDERAL
C/Parlament 39 (Poble Sec)
Metro: Sant Antoni
open monday to thursday: 9:00- 23:00h, friday & saturday 9:00-1:00h, sunday 9:00-17:30h
Still the CAFÉ FEDERAL keeps on appearing in every single Barcelona Brunch guide/blog/recomendation.
And I have to agree the food and drinks are really nice and a welcome change to the tipical barcelonian 'café con leche y pastita' (milk coffee and croissant).
Please try: baked eggs and grapefruit juice!
This place in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood is always packed with local and tourist hipsters and you have to be veeery lucky to get a seat on it's symbolic window sill bench.
Note: Brunch here does NOT mean the (tipical German) all-you-can-eat concept. You pay every dish for it's own and it is not very cheap neather.
- total on bill: ca.15€ per person
In the picture: Oven baked eggs Caprese
365
C/ Princesa 14 (Born)
Metro: Jaume I
open every day 6:00 - 22:00h
The 365 is a bakery chain and a coffeeshop which you can already find on several locations in Barcelona. The variety and the quality of the products are quite good and the prices very reasonable (Donuts 2x1 1,20€).
The shop in Calle Princesa has a very spacey area where you can sit on chairs or sofas and enjoy your coffee. It is also a very recommendable breakfast spot in the Born neighbourhood.
- total on bill: < 5€ for a sandwich or a piece of pastry and a milk coffee
CAFÉ SALAMBO
C/ Torrijos 51 (Gràcia)
Metro: Fontana or Joanic
open monday to thursday 12:00- 1:00h, friday & saturday until 3:00 and sunday 12:00 - 24:00h
The CAFÉ SALAMBO is a really nice mixture between a coffee shop, restaurant and bar in the neighbourhood of Gràcia.
It has a small terrace close to the Plaza Vidreira in the same street like the Mexican deli shop TEICAWAY.
I appreciate the SALAMBO overall for a relaxed sunday afternoon coffee with a little cake or pastry or for a Sunday morning vermuth on the terrace.
SALTERIO
C/Sant Domènec del Call 4
Matro: Jaume I (Born/Gótico)
open daily 13:00- 01:00h
Places like that are very rare in Barcelona: The SALTERIO is a small, warm restaurant in neighbourhood of Barrio Gótico offering mostly teas, Turkish coffee and a small variety of vegetarian dishes.
The space is very limited and usually packed with people squeezing to the small living room tables sipping on a cup of tea. And yes: the tea is amazing! You have so many different options from flavoured black tea, to moroccan mint to different blends of with green or red leaves.
They also offer a short menu with very surprising food: the speciality of the place is the Sardo, traditional vegetarian flatbread from island of Sardinia, with different toppings.
The service takes it's time: Such the teas and the dishes need their time to get prepared, so you better be not in a hurry.
- total on bill: 2,50-3€ for an individual can of tea
EL TÍO CHE
Rambla de Poblenou 44-46 (Poblenou)
Metro: Poblenou
open 10:00- 0:00h, wednesdays closed
This authentic old ice cream shop is not only the most popular in the Poblenou neighborhood since 1912 but also widely known as the most famous Horchatería of Barcelona.
Horchata (catalan: orxata) is a Spanish drink made of chufa (tigernuts), an almond-like fruit grown in the region of Valencia. It's known in all Spain and a popular refreshing drink in summer. Although it kind of looks like a milkshake, it's vegan.
I strongly recommend to ask for a medium-sweetend version: they mix the traditional & sugarfree horchata. The traditional horchata is reeeally sweet, but the mix is just perfect. If you want the whole sugar rush, get some fartóns with it (spongy, sweet baked sticks to dip into the drink).
The price for a medium sized cup of horchata is 2,80€. The ice cream cones, depending on the numbers of flavors you chose, beginning at 3,20€.

Hi, my name is Kristin.
I'm from Germany but for over ten years I have been living, working and eating in Barcelona. Receiving a lot of friends from all over the world I always have been asked for references and recommendations where to enjoy a good meal or having a drink in the city.
